Matthew Cassar

Matthew Cassar was born in Rabat on 25th November 1946. He started his art lessons at the Lyceum, Hamrun under Esprit Barthet during the early sixties. During this period he also attended workshops with Chev. Francesco Borg and Anthony Mahony, and attended the Malta School of Art for four years. Between 1993 and 1996 Matthew embarked on a four year course in Master Art with the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania and was awarded the diploma on 27th June 1996.
Matthew also studied History of Art at the University of Malta between 1996 and 1999. During 1998 he completed a course in Decorative Paint techniques at the Euro Institute of Music and Arts. In 1999 the Artist was awarded a Special Distinction Award for his work at the Malta International Art Biennale.
Matthew is an art teacher and he has taught mainly at St Elias College and for ten years at St Paul’s Missionary College, Rabat. For twenty four years he has been teaching Art at all levels at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta.
The Artist has participated in numerous exhibitions locally and abroad and he has also organised several exhibitions for his students.
